STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Hawaii, is seeking a student(s)
to fill paid positions in our office. The student will assist attorneys,
legal assistants, and the legal assistant staff by filing court documents,
copying and organizing court exhibits, answering telephonic inquires
from the public, and assisting in other administrative support matters.
The student will be required to work at least 20 hours per week. Days and hours of work are flexible to accommodate class and study schedules; however, all work will be performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
NUMBER OF VACANCIES: One (1) position. Based on the staffing needs of this office, additional selections may be made through this vacancy announcement.
The following is a general outline of the federal government's Student Temporary Employment Program and the requirements for employment:
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- A student is an individual enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as a degree seeking student in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school.
- Students must be at least 16 years of age.
- Students must be taking at least a half-time academic/vocation/or technical course load. The definition of half-time is the definition provided by the school of enrollment.
- Students must maintain an academic grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better on a 4-point scale for initial employment and continuation in the program.
- Students are appointed to positions not to exceed one year. Appointments may be extended in one-year increments.
- Students are eligible for promotion and annual/sick leave.
- After completion of one year of continuous employment under this program, students are eligible for health benefits coverage (however, the government does not contribute premium payments).

GRADE SALARY EXPERIENCE OR

GS-2 $11.48/hr (includes 25% cost of living allowance). 3 months of
qualifying experience or high school grad or equivalent
- Students must possess typing proficiency at the rate of at least 40 words per minute.
OTHER INFORMATION
Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background investigation adjudicated by the Department of Justice. The background investigation is thorough and it will include checks with present and former employers, military records, credit bureaus, etc. Employment is subject to drug testing by urinalysis for applicants who are at least 18 years of age. Employment under the Student Temporary Employment Program does not afford noncompetitive conversion to permanent employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office, or any other federal agency.
