Welcome to the fall 2008 semester. I hope the semester is a good one for you and you are/will be enjoying your courses.

For students new to the program, each week (or most weeks) I will be sending you information about the program, job opportunities, advising, helpful hints, etc. I hope you find the information of value.

Most of the information is also posted on the Legal Education website http://legal.kcc.hawaii.edu/. Please familarize yourself with the site as we have lots of helpful information for you. You might be interested is visiting the Advising and Counseling site http://legal.kcc.hawaii.edu/advising/index.html. Here we have the Paralegal Handbook, Legal Terminology Glossary, Hawai`i Law Primer, Student Conduct and Expectations, Graduation Information, Student Responsibilities, etc.

This week we have the following informational notices:
1. HPA August 27, lunch hour seminar-Auto & Homeowner's insurance policies, see 8.21.08 lunch hour seminar

2. Need assistance with Laulima the UH's new online collaboration and learning environment, how to survive an online course, or need help with Excel or MS Word, etc.? Check out the SOS (Secrets of Success) webpage (http://library.kcc.hawaii.edu/SOS/).

3. Please keep the fall 2008 academic calendar bookmarked as it has information regarding holidays, graduation application deadlines, withdrawal from class deadlines, etc. Go to http://www.kcc.hawaii.edu/object/reguide.html and click on "Calendar: Summer/fall 2008".

4. September 14 is the last day to withdraw from courses for 50% tuition refund. If you are withdrawing from all your classes; you are withdrawing from college. Complete withdrawals from college must be done in person at KISC. Read the calendar for more information.

5. If interested in a spring 2009 tuition grant, read the fall 2008 grant information to prepare yourself. Volunteer service is a requirement. An informational notice will be sent later. Go to http://legal.kcc.hawaii.edu/news/academicadvising.html , click on "4.21.08 UH Achievement Grants, Tuition Monies" fall 2008 grant information.

6. Regularly read your @hawaii.edu email. @hawaii.edu is the official UH electronic communications. Your instructors, department, and I will communicate with you via your @hawaii.edu email. If class is cancelled, notification will be sent to your @hawaii.edu email. Email me using your @hawaii.edu account.
