Hi,

 

The following is a great opportunity if you are looking for tuition funds for the fall 2008 semester. The departmental deadline is Monday, May 5, 2008

 

University of Hawai`i Achievement Grants:

University of Hawai ‘i Achievement Grants are intended to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in the UH system, with priority given to residents of Hawai‘i, and to ensure that the financial assistance awarded serves the needs of the University and the taxpayers of the state of Hawai‘i.

 

Application:

Application is attached for your convenience. Please be sure to complete the application fully and completely. There is no exception to the VOLUNTEER SERVICE requirement. It is to your advantage to clearly list your activities and to specifically note the hours spent with the activity by week, month, or semester.

 

If eligible to apply for the tuition waiver, I must receive your application by midnight, Monday, May 5, 2008 . The office closes at 4:30 PM. There is no exception to this deadline. Email, hand carry or fax 808.734.9147 the application.

 

Notification:

The financial aid office will notify grant recipients. Again, only grant recipients will be notified.

University of Hawai ‘i Achievement Grants         Fall 2008

Application form-Legal Education

 

The University of Hawai ‘i Achievement Grants are intended to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in the UH system, with priority given to residents of Hawai‘i, and to ensure that the financial assistance awarded serves the needs of the University and the taxpayers of the state of Hawai‘i.

 

The award consists of a grant with a maximum value of $600 per semester or up to the cost of your Kapi` olani Community College tuition (whichever is less). However, the UH Achievement Grant may not be used to cover Pre-College classes (PCM or PCC classes). Grants will be awarded on a first-qualified, first-awarded basis. Students will be notified of their award by mail.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

•  Priority will be given to residents of Hawai`i.

•  Students must be continuing classified paralegal or legal secretary students at Kapi` olani Community College , enrolled for at least 6 credits, fall 2008.

•  Priority will be given to students who have not earned prior degrees (associate or baccalaureate degrees).

•  Students must not have been awarded other tuition monies for the semester of application.

•  Students must have attained a minimum cumulative KCC Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.

•  There is a maximum of eight semesters that a student may receive this award.

7)    Volunteer Service: Describe activities in the following areas from fall 2007 through spring 2008. Minimum of 20 documented hours. Volunteer service is a requirement of this grant. On an attached sheet describe:

•  Service to the Legal Education Department. The applicant’s commitment to the Legal Education Department. This should include assistance to classmates or instructors. Indicate number of hours of service by week, month, or semester.

•  Service to Hawai`i ’s general legal community. The applicant should provide information regarding community service performed including but not limited to service to the Hawai`i Paralegal Association, Volunteer Legal Services Hawai`i , and Hawai`i Legal Support Professionals. Indicate number of hours of service by week, month, or semester.

•  Other community service. The applicant should provide additional information regarding community service performed in areas not specifically related to the law. Indicate number of hours of service by week, month, or semester.
