Mission Statements

Legal Education Department Mission

The Legal Education Department’s mission is to provide legal education to all students interested in legal studies. The credit programs prepare graduates to perform a significant role in the delivery of legal services. The department values personal fulfillment and professional development that results from lifelong learning, therefore, credit and noncredit classes, workshops, seminars, and television shows are developed and offered that respond to the needs of prospective, current, and graduate students, as well as to practicing legal professionals, the legal community, and other interested individuals.

Paralegal Mission

The Paralegal Program’s mission is to provide paralegal education to students interested in careers as paralegals or for positions where communication, analytical, and organizational skills as well as knowledge of law and legal procedures are necessary. The program provides the foundation for students to think critically, and act ethically in the workplace and in the community. The program also prepares students to continue educational pursuits and encourages lifelong learning and community service.

Counselor Mission

The counselor’s mission is to assist learners to attain their educational, professional, and personal goals. Services and activities are provided to support and retain the learner to succeed, to appreciate diversity, and to commit to lifelong learning. The counselor will actively advise and lead the department on meeting learner needs and on recommending and initiating changes on behalf of the learner from entry to exit.

The counselor strives to accomplish the mission through a holistic, learner-centered approach, which is proactive in addressing the needs of the multi cultural student body through a range of integrated services designed to promote:

  • Unconditional acceptance and positive regard for each individual,
  • Trustworthy information relevant to personal and career development,
  • A nurturing climate for exploration and learning,
  • Encouragement to strive to recognize and realize one’s potential, and
  • Open communication with the department, campus community, and public.
