Advising & Counseling FAQs

Who is my advisor?
The Legal Education Department advisor/counselor is Cynthia N. Kimura. You can contact Cynthia by email or call 808.734.9103.

How can I get a degree audit?
To view your degree audit program, STAR, log into MyUH. STAR matches your academic record against program requirements to show what has been completed and what you still need to complete to meet those requirements.

How can I make sure I take the correct classes?
Compare the classes you have taken and those you plan to take and the specific requirements of your academic program. You can see what the course is about and check for prerequisites by looking up the course description for any course you are thinking about taking in the college catalog. It is also important that you see your academic advisor or, if that’s not possible, use your degree audit program, STAR, to review your course selections.

I am a non-degree student. How do I declare a major?
You can declare or change most majors quickly and easily by using the Change of Major form.

How do I know what catalog I am under?
The program requirements listed in the catalog in effect or subsequent catalog when you entered or reentered a major are the program requirements you must meet to complete the program. In the event that program requirements changed, you must meet the new program requirements as listed in the catalog in effect upon reentry.

How can I succeed at KCC?
The most common characteristic among students who don’t do well academically at KCC is that they don’t attend class. To succeed, you need to attend class, get to know your instructors, take advantage of services such as tutoring, get involved in one or two activities that are important to you, and contact your adviser at least once a semester.
